PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES
Jim is dedicated to working to make greater benefits and investments to people with disabilities both physical and intellectual. Technology is rapidly evolving to better aid and serve those with disabilities. The state needs to create avenues to supply this technology to those qualified individuals within our state and promote funding for positions that train and monitor this assistance. Security devices, cooking aids, transportation, learning aids and daily living assistance.
Further state programs are funding private developments where affordable supported housing is incorporated into multi unit apartments. This dormitory style housing is incorporated so that disabled will be able to live within a thriving complex. Usually with close proximity to shopping and dining out opportunities. We need to expand and support this development. The state needs to level the playing field on home care wages to not for profit agencies like the Southington ARC and others. There is currently a significant disparity in the amount the state will reimburse providers vs. what the state actually pays caregivers. Like paramedics in this state, these people who are passionate and caring are working for wages that pale in comparison to other professions that do not have the liability and responsibility of these occupations.
